Client

The Rabigh project represented a pioneering example of the integration of Italian technologies and Middle Eastern infrastructure, anticipating today's needs for sustainability, energy independence, and water resilience in arid areas.

Construction:

  • Technology and design: Italimpianti (now Fisia Italimpianti), using proprietary know-how.
  • Civil construction and infrastructure: Almabani (Saudi Arabia), a local engineering and construction company.

Technology Used – MSF (Multi-Stage Flash Distillation):
The plant uses MSF desalination technology, which is based on rapid evaporation (flash evaporation) in multiple stages at decreasing pressures. This is a proven thermal technology, particularly suitable for applications with waste heat availability or autonomous steam production.

Production capacity:

  • 1,100 m³ of desalinated water per day
  • Production distributed across two independent operating lines, ensuring flexibility and continuity of service.

Operational autonomy:
The plant is completely autonomous in the production of electricity and steam, thanks to an integrated system that powers both the desalination process and auxiliary services.
